I would have never thought to add Dubuque, Iowa as a cool destination, but here we are. The first time we went there it was for a woodworking show. My husband loves to make great things on his scroll saw. It’s not the kind of place I would think of going just to go but I was quite surprised at what a perfect little weekend getaway it would make. It’s about a four-hour drive from our house and the drive in itself was beautiful! We even stopped at a lookout site to take some pics and take in all the beauty. We stayed at the Grand Harbor Resort which isn’t as pricey as I first thought it would be.
I have to say that the winery is my favorite part of the weekend. They have a band on weekends with room to dance (I’m not a dancer) and indoor and outdoor seating. By the end of the night the crowd was so big just to listen to the music. There were even families sitting along the riverwalk listening to the music and soaking up the atmosphere.
Once we were in Dubuque, we never had to move the car. Everything is in walking distance. We have the winery down the riverwalk, the casino across the street, a nice restaurant inside the hotel, and a cute little town to walk around in. We’ve been there half dozen times, and we’ll go back again I’m sure.,
I’m sharing some links below if you’d like to check things out.
